'Ohana food allergy reviewI was nervous about this one due to the family style dining setup, but was blown away by my wonderful experience. Every step of the way, from check in to the hostess to our waitress to the chef, they confirmed my allergies. The chef indicated that none of the traditional dining that is brought from table to table was safe, but that he would prepare my food separately and bring it out. I expected bland basics, but everything was delicious.

As it is family style, there is a set menu and no choices. Here is what I was brought.
-green salad with vinaigrette
-gluten free rolls with I’m assuming earth balance, but it didn’t look quite right so I skipped it
-ginger chicken wings (no sauce)
-steamed white rice with veggies (onion, baby corn, broccoli, mushroom, water chestnuts)
-grilled chicken, grilled shrimp, steak–all very tender despite no sauce
-enjoy life soft double chocolate chip cookies with fruit (the only mediocre course)

I would highly recommend this experience! I left stuffed and there was more than I could possibly have eaten brought to me. Excellent flavors and very friendly and reassuring staff.

Crystal Palace dining with dairy and nut allergies

Chef Ron with CharlotteWe love the Crystal Palace! Even though it’s a buffet, the Chef always brings us freshly prepared items from the kitchen. We were sad to find out that Chef Paul had moved on to Universal. However, all Disney Chefs are fully trained to accommodate food allergies and, this time, we met Chef Ron. He was fantastic! He prepared eggs, bacon, waffles, muffins and doughnuts, with maple syrup.

Dairy-free and nut-free breakfast at Disney WorldIt was much more than Charlotte could eat, but she had plenty of choices. We took the leftover doughnuts for a snack later. We love breakfast at Crystal Palace. We typically make a reservation early, so that we can enter the Magic Kingdom before opening, which allows us to get some fantastic photos in front of Cinderella’s Castle without any large crowds in front.

Hollywood & Vine with food allergiesWe had a party of 11 people, ages 4-66, and everyone really loved dinner here! My 4 year old son is allergic to milk, eggs and peanuts. I made our reservation online and indicated we had someone with these food allergies. The host confirmed when we checked in and then the waiter was fully aware when we were seated. The chef came out and walked me through the buffet going over what food would be safe for my son – there were plenty of options, including a pasta bar that my son loved (he had multi-grain rotini pasta w/ marinara sauce). The best part for my son with these allergies was that they had tofutti ice cream and enjoy life cookies they brought out for dessert. My son finally was able to have a special dessert like everyone else. He loved it, and it made my day to see him enjoy a meal at a restaurant as much as he did! Would definitely recommend to anyone!

'Ohana food allergy reviewWe did the character breakfast and had a great meal and experience. We had a party of 11 ages 4-66. My 4 year old son is allergic to milk, egg and peanut. The chef came out and explained their food prep and the would make a buckwheat waffle with sides of bacon, sausage and potatoes for him. My son doesn’t like sausage or potatoes so he didn’t eat either but he loved the waffles, bacon, fresh fruit and juice. I taste tested the waffles and they were really good! The character interaction was fun for everyone. I was skeptical because my 4 year old twins weren’t familiar with Lilo and Stitch, but they thought Stitch was funny. They loved meeting Mickey and Pluto. The rest of the family loved the food.
Highly recommend!!

Pepper Market food allergy review

Pepper Market at Coronado SpringsChef Ricardo rocks! He really went above and beyond his duty to help us.

We explained how much our daughter loved the Maya Grill and the build-your-own tacos she had there. He basically prepared the same thing for her lunch. My husband and I ate from the “buffet” where, basically, you walk around to each of the “market” booths and select your meal, quick service-like.

The next day, we knew Chef Ricardo was working during breakfast. So, we returned to the Pepper Market and he met us at the table to discuss our daughter’s options. She told Chef Ricardo that she loved the allergen-free Mickey Waffles, eggs and bacon. As a surprise, and big treat, he made Mickey pancakes! It was so exciting for her!

We told him about our Disney cruise and asked if it was possible to get anything “to go” so that we would definitely have safe food for her when we boarded the Disney Dream the next day. When you board the cruise ship, the quick service pool-side restaurants are open, and the pizza and ice-cream are readily available. And, while we could possibly speak to the head chef to prepare something safe, it wasn’t a sure bet. So, Chef Ricardo made us a “to go” version of her favorite build-your-own tacos to take with us when we boarded the cruise ship. It turned out to be the perfect option.

Chef Ricardo showed so much concern and was so happy to help. He gave us his personal contact information for our next visit, any time we need to get our daughter a safe Mexican fix. Of course, not only is he willing to do this for us, he stays in contact with many other families that have visited his restaurant. We love Chef Ricardo!

Hollywood & Vine with food allergiesI’m very surprised to read the review submitted by Gretchen about this restaurant. We were there back in November 2012 and my son is allergic to milk, egg, peanuts, tree nuts, and sesame. The chef made my son fresh pancakes and waffles, bacon, and fresh fruit. Maybe it all depends on what chef is on duty? Surprising because we’ve eaten at 10-15 different restaurants at Disney and none of them ever offered us
frozen waffles.

Food allergy free dining at BomaWe absolutely loved this restaurant. We went for breakfast and our wonderful server told us the Chef would be right out. He walked us through the buffet and told us what we could and couldn’t have. There was plenty of food to choose from! To make things even better, the chef surprised me with a plate of gluten free brownies and a white chocolate Mickey since it was my birthday. I was so surprised and thrilled. We will be returning in the fall to try the dinner buffet.

Dining with food allergies at Carnation Cafe in Disneyland

This guest review was provided by Sherry, who blogs at Mission Mama.

Traveling with food allergies is at the very least a challenge but at the very most completely dangerous. Most places are not careful enough with cross contamination or diligence in ingredient literacy. I feel a little like I’m playing Russian Roulette. With multiple food allergies, several autoimmune disorders and  IBS, I was very nervous before our trip.

At Disney I had little to be concerned about. The quality of care taken to prevent cross contamination and label misreading is extraordinary. Though I wish they would use more modern dairy and egg substitutions for desserts, there were a few food highlights I would like to mention. If you are vegan and/or gluten free, you must try the Chef’s Vegan Burger with avocado (instead of mayo) on a lettuce “bun” at Carnation Cafe in Disneyland.  Wow!!!!! It was so amazing I asked the chef for the recipe. To my knowledge it is the only bean burger in Disney. But it isn’t just any bean burger, it is incredible! And yes it is fully gluten free. It’s the chief’s own special recipe. It was so delicious that I asked the chief for the recipe, and he really sent it to me! Apparently you can ask for any recipe at Disney and they will actually send it to you.

Sherry outside of Carnation Cafe - dining with food allergiesIf you have an allergy to gluten, eggs and dairy, go ahead and eat the raspberry sorbet once. After that try the kettle corn, the Dole Whip (Disneyland) and BYOC (bring your own chocolate). I wrote a post on my complete vegan/gluten free experience at Disneyland. Click here to check it out.

I want to thank Liz for this website. I like the collection of Disney experiences represented here.

Liberty Inn with a dairy allergy

This quick review was provided by Danielle, who is allergic to milk.

Liberty Inn was a good place to eat. I ordered the dairy-free chicken strips and french fries. Although it was simple, it was yummy! We spoke with the manager and he assured me the meal would be prepared safely. I think Liberty Inn is a good place if you are looking to get a safe meal in a fairly short amount of time.Liberty Inn - America Pavilion - Epcot
