Tokyo Dining with a food allergyMy husband and I had a delicious dinner at Tokyo Dining in Epcot last night (12/22)! I had contacted the Disney Special Diets team in advance and notified them of my food allergies and food intolerances. When we had been shown to our table, the manager of the restaurant came to the table and asked what I would like to order and wrote down my list of allergens. She personally brought the order to the chef and then personally brought the food to our table to ensure that the order was correct and accurate.

Tokyo Dining with multiple food allergiesI ordered grilled chicken, steamed white rice, and cooked carrots. I asked if it was possible to get some sesame oil to put on the grilled chicken for flavor and so they also brought me some sesame oil on the side. The food was absolutely delicious and most importantly it was a safe meal! My husband said that he wished he had ordered what I had because it looked so good! I did not get sick afterwards and I have never had a reaction from a meal at Disney because they have excellent customer service for guests that have food allergies and intolerances. I highly recommend this place to eat if you have multiple food allergies and intolerances like I do because they were very accommodating!

La Hacienda de San Angel food allergy review

This quick review was provided by Ann, who is allergic to gluten and soy, and has a vegetarian diet.

Dining gluten free at La Hacienda de San AngelLa Hacienda de San Angel is a newer restaurant that was put in at “Mexico” in Epcot. The chef here was AWESOME, but I can’t remember his name. He came out and told us what we could and could not have and let us make our own meal, catered to our needs. So we had specially-made veggie tacos on homemade corn tortillas with Mexican rice.

Gluten free at La Hacienda at EpcotThis was, hands down, the absolute best allergy dining experience I have ever had on WDW property, and we will be back. The food was so filling and fresh, and the restaurant staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about allergies.

This quick review was provided by Ann, who is allergic to gluten and soy, and has a vegetarian diet.

Before we we were diagnosed with being gluten and soy sensitive, we enjoyed many a meal at Les Chefs de France. Unfortunately, this most recent experience in September 2011 was the worst allergy experience I have ever had on WDW Property.

The chef was less-than-happy to come out to talk to us about our needs. He turned his nose up to our allergies and said “well, I’ll just make you a plate of sauteed vegetables”. Ok, that sounds great, we love vegetables!! The waitress brought out some Ener-G rolls, hot and wonderful, with real butter. Chefs de France gluten and soy free plateThey tied us over until we got our meal. What we were served was a blob of spinach, half of a boiled peeled potato, half of a boiled tomato, and some green beans. No salt, no pepper, no oil, no nothing. And we were charged almost $20 per person for this.

Unfortunately, we will not be going back, and I’m saddened to say that I have heard others with equally bad allergy experiences at this restaurant. I called Disney and complained about our experience, and the Cast Member I talked to couldn’t believe it, and apologized for our poor experience, but was grateful that I took the time to share my concerns.

Great Disney Deal for Girl Scouts!

Posted on : 01-04-2012 | By : Allergy Free Mouse | In : Misc

If you have a Girl Scout in your family, this deal is too good to pass up. Disney is welcoming Girl Scouts and their friends and families to celebrate in the “Bridging into the Next Century” event at Epcot, May 25 – 28, 2012.

The Girl Scouts and Alumni, will bridge together in Epcot, with Disney characters waiting at the end to congratulate the girls.

OK, this is where it really gets exciting.

3 day tickets are only $126! That’s a $96 discount. These are not Park Hopper, but they are available at a discount, too. Add a 3 day hotel at the All-Star Sports Resort for $97 per night (tax included) and you have a Disney vacation for a family of 4 for $795. A discounted moderate hotel may be available, too.

The details are here: Girl Scouts at Disney Pricing and Information

To make reservations, go here:

Walt Disney made an honorary Girl Scout

Allergy Free Mouse will be at Epcot to meet our readers, probably with some sort of food allergy free handout.

Book ASAP – great dining options are still available.

Did you know? Walt Disney was an honorary Girl Scout

When we contacted John Basmajian to use this photo, he included this information regarding the event:

I am pleased that you that you would like to use the photo of Walt Disney being made an honorary Girl Scout of my mom’s Girl Scout troop #19 of Park Elementary School of Alhambra, California, in 1945.

My sister, Lucia, recalls at the time that the Girl Scouts of America would not endorse or use the photo for any publication because the girls had their shirt sleeves rolled up.  It was a VERY hot day.

Sincerely,
John Orin Basmajian

BabyCakes NYC in Downtown Disney Delivers…Cakes!!!

This is exciting news! We had a tradition (OK, for 2 trips) to have a dairy-free cake delivered to 1900 Park Fare or Cinderella’s Royal Table for our little Princess, early in our trip. She would enjoy that cake at the hotel for the rest of the week. Then, along came BabyCakes NYC to Downtown Disney, and everything changed. It became our first and last stops of the trip.

BabyCakes NYC - food allergy friendly bakery in Downtown DisneyNow, BabyCakes NYC can deliver cakes to Disney World, offering the best of two already great options.

Having a cake delivered to a dining event is already truly exciting for a child with food allergies. And our friends at BabyCakes NYC have the most delicious allergen-friendly and vegan baked goods on the planet. Therefore, having a BabyCakes NYC cake delivered to a Disney dining event has to be just as exciting as dining with Mickey Mouse or the entire Disney Princess Royal Family. At least, for a child with food allergies, it ranks right up there.

BabyCakes NYC offers a 6″ round cake (serves 8-10) in a number of different flavors including:  Vanilla, Chocolate, Carrot, Lemon, Brownie, Blondie, Banana, and Pumpkin. And they can also write personalized inscriptions, too!

Guests can place their cake orders by calling the bakery directly (407.938.9044).  They just need to have their reservation date, time, and confirmation number handy. BabyCakes NYC asks for at least one week notice for these orders, but the earlier the better!

We can hardly wait until our next trip to bring back this tradition. Of course, we’ll still have to stop in at BabyCakes NYC upon arrival in Orlando!
