california-grill-logoGreat job accommodating our daughter’s allergies.  She had a lot of choices and we settled on allergy safe tuna sushi rolls as a starter for the whole table, and she had steak, veg and rice from the children’s meal.  The only disappointment was that they didn’t have a more “exciting” dessert option for her.  She had the fruit kabob minus the yogurt as they said that was the only option.  The waiter kept pushing dessert for me, and I had to explain that I didn’t want to eat a yummy dessert when my daughter could only have 4 pieces of fruit.  Bummer, but we went to Magic Kingdom and got a Dole Whip to make up for it.  Not the end of the world and she didn’t mind having fruit (I was the one disappointed to skip my yummy dessert.  LOL)

Overall another great dinner. My husband and I loved our bison steaks here and our other daughter was excited to have pizza..a rare treat for the sister of a diary allergic kid.

Support our GoFundMe for a little boy removed from a plane due to an allergy

Posted on : 26-02-2016 | By : Allergy Free Mouse | In : Events, Misc, News

disney-cruise-palsWe were contacted by many of our readers about a little boy that was asked to leave a flight because he was allergic to dogs, and one happened to be on the flight. The plane returned from the runway to the terminal and, sadly, the other passengers applauded as he and his family exited the plan.

Here is the full story as reported by KTVB News in Washington.

As mentioned in the news story, Giovanni and his family traveled to Bellingham, Washington, because his father, George Alvarado, wanted to visit as part of his “bucket list” — he has terminal throat cancer. The reaction by Allegiant Airlines and the other passengers soured what was supposed to be a trip of fond memories.

We want to send this boy and his family on a Disney Cruise and we’re turning to our food allergy community to help, since we all know what it’s like to be excluded from activities, including flying on certain other airlines, due to allergies. We feel a cruise, also on George’s bucket list,  would help make up for the mental anguish caused by Allegiant and some of their customers. Plus, Giovanni can meet Pluto on a Disney Cruise, a dog he isn’t allergic to!

Help us make this happen. As you can imagine, time is of the essence. Please visit our GoFundMe page and make a donation. We can show Giovanni and his family that the allergy community is very supportive, when others may not be.

This quick review was provided by Jennifer, whose daughter is allergic to gluten and dairy.

Dining at Chefs de France gluten free and dairy freeWe had a great experience at Chef de France when we went in November! My daughter has an allergy to gluten and dairy which we noted in our reservation. When we were seated our waiter Leo asked about our allergies, assured us they could work with it and brought the chef to our table. The chef (can’t remember his name) asked my daughter what she liked to eat and when she said chicken, he said that would be easy and took her order for roast chicken, roasted potatoes and steamed broccoli. She was unable to ea he gluten free roll they offer so they gave her sliced cucumbers instead (at her request). It was a wonderful experience and we all enjoyed ourselves!

Also pictured are the ingredients:

  • Sugar & Spice cookie mix, free of gluten, peanuts, tree nuts and dairy.

The mix, by Sugar & Spice Market is one of the best gluten-free, peanut-free, tree nut-free, and dairy-free  mixes I’ve found. Some of their mixes are also corn free. They make cookie, brownie and pancake mixes. Based here in Atlanta, you can find them at:

Also, we had a great time at the Food Allergy Kids of Atlanta’s Halloween Party, so we included a couple of photos from that.

Epcot’s Teppan Edo with food allergies

We received this from Shannon, whose son is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts and eggs.

Tokyo Dining with food allergiesFirst, thank you so much for your blog, it has been very helpful at navigating around Disney World!

I got very worried as I read that some of the Epcot restaurants were not owned by Disney and therefore the chefs may not be trained the same.

My son, who has a peanut, treenut and egg allergy was very excited about going to Teppan Edo because he loves to cook, he wanted to see the chefs in action.

Normally I would never consider going to a similar restaurant, but in Disney I felt safer.

I decided to call ahead and speak to a manager. He assured me that there are no peanuts/tree nuts on the premises. He mentioned that the noodles have eggs in them, as does their white yum-yum sauce, both are easy to just avoid. They do not make fried rice, so there is no eggs on the grill.

Can’t tell you how thrilled I was that I was able to keep my reservation and let my son be apart of this exciting dining experience.

We are traveling over Thanksgiving, so I’ll be sure to touch base with you again and let you know how our experience was!

Pepper Market food allergy review

Pepper Market at Coronado SpringsChef Ricardo rocks! He really went above and beyond his duty to help us.

We explained how much our daughter loved the Maya Grill and the build-your-own tacos she had there. He basically prepared the same thing for her lunch. My husband and I ate from the “buffet” where, basically, you walk around to each of the “market” booths and select your meal, quick service-like.

The next day, we knew Chef Ricardo was working during breakfast. So, we returned to the Pepper Market and he met us at the table to discuss our daughter’s options. She told Chef Ricardo that she loved the allergen-free Mickey Waffles, eggs and bacon. As a surprise, and big treat, he made Mickey pancakes! It was so exciting for her!

We told him about our Disney cruise and asked if it was possible to get anything “to go” so that we would definitely have safe food for her when we boarded the Disney Dream the next day. When you board the cruise ship, the quick service pool-side restaurants are open, and the pizza and ice-cream are readily available. And, while we could possibly speak to the head chef to prepare something safe, it wasn’t a sure bet. So, Chef Ricardo made us a “to go” version of her favorite build-your-own tacos to take with us when we boarded the cruise ship. It turned out to be the perfect option.

Chef Ricardo showed so much concern and was so happy to help. He gave us his personal contact information for our next visit, any time we need to get our daughter a safe Mexican fix. Of course, not only is he willing to do this for us, he stays in contact with many other families that have visited his restaurant. We love Chef Ricardo!

Disney Culinary Dietary Specialist Gary JonesOur friends over at recently inteviewed Gary Jones, Culinary Dietary Specialist of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. He discusses their approach, training and other dietary initiatives.

Some interesting data from the interview include the 625,000 guests who visited Disney World and Disneyland with one or more food allergies. He also mentions that guests visiting with 3 or more food allergies is not uncommon and does not “stress us out”. And he includes some tips for visiting with special dietary needs. Mainly, it’s all about planning accordingly, especially if you have multiple food allergies, including guests with especially complex food allergy combinations.

LeFou's Brew ingredient listHere are the ingredients for LeFou’s Brew at Gaston’s Tavern, as found in the food allergy book in July 2013. While it was cool and free of our daughter’s food allergies, dairy, peanuts and tree nuts, she was not a fan of these combination of flavors. Also, this is LeFou’s Brew without the souvenir mug.

A Magical cast member

Posted on : 02-06-2013 | By : Allergy Free Mouse | In : Misc

If you’ve ever found yourself fortunate enough to visit any Disney theme park, hotel or cruise ship, you know that “Disney Magic” can be found in some of the extraordinary Cast Members. We have met many incredible chefs, waiters, photographers, ride attendants, mousekeepers and bell staff.

Well, our our Disney Cruise aboard the Magic, we met the incredible Efrain Perez. He was always a joy to talk to and loves the whole Disney experience. He was stationed at the Guest Services desk and always extremely professional, but had a “good friend” vibe. One day, after rough weather on an excursion, I told him about our experience and about how we couldn’t get a refund, and he just listened to me. My daughter and I both just adored how he lent an ear and just listened with concern, even though there was nothing he could do about it. We all laughed at the end of my rant. Later that day, we got a knock at the stateroom door. It was the concierge with a gift from Efrain for our daughter — a giant stuffed Lotso Bear, from Toy Story 3. She was so taken by his kindness, that she wrapped her AllergyFreeMouse bear in a bow to give to him. Wow! Talk about beautiful and rewarding experience. You just can’t find this level of service and caring anywhere else!

Efrain, we love you and hope to see you soon!
